A City on a Hill Cannot Be Hidden

Matthew 5:14

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."

After calling His followers the salt of the earth, Jesus continues with another powerful image: light.

Light is meant to be seen.

A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Its presence is obvious. Its light shines outward for everyone around it to see.

In the same way, the life of a believer is not meant to be hidden or blended quietly into the background. When we follow Christ, our lives naturally begin to reflect Him.

This doesn’t mean believers must live loudly or draw attention to themselves. But it does mean our faith should be visible in the way we live, speak, and treat others.

Sometimes the temptation is to keep our faith private. Culture often pressures believers to remain quiet about their convictions, to avoid standing out, or to soften the truth to fit in.

But Jesus reminds us that His followers are the light of the world.

Light does not apologize for shining.
It simply does what it was created to do.

Take a moment and consider:

Are there places in my life where I’ve been tempted to hide my faith instead of letting it shine?

Living as light does not require perfection. It simply requires faithfulness.

When we remain close to Christ, His light naturally begins to shine through us in ways that influence the world around us.

Be the salt.
Be the light.
