Am I Influencing the World… or Is It Influencing Me?

I’ve had to pause and put myself in check. Reflecting on Jesus’ words about being the salt of the earth, I realized something uncomfortable but necessary: it’s possible to carry the name of Christ and slowly begin to blend in with the culture around us. Not in obvious ways, but in subtle ones—through compromise, silence, or simply becoming too comfortable.

That realization forced me to examine my own heart and ask a difficult question: Am I truly influencing the world around me, or has the world begun influencing me?

Jesus calls His followers to be the salt of the earth. Salt is meant to influence whatever it touches, not blend into it.

Following Christ means living differently, yet it’s surprisingly easy to conform to the culture around us without even realizing it. Sometimes the shift happens quietly, through small compromises or subtle changes in priorities. When I paused to examine my own heart, I realized there were areas where God was calling me to realign with Him.

Take a moment and ask yourself:

  • Have I allowed culture to influence my thinking more than Christ?

  • Are there areas where I’ve become comfortable blending in instead of standing firm?

Being salt and light begins with honest reflection. When we allow God to reveal the places where we’ve drifted, He is also faithful to guide us back into alignment with Him.
