Mother’s Day Series Part 3: Who You Are When No One’s Watching
Character is who you are when no one’s watching.
I’ve always loved the honesty of that description of character.
Because even when no one else sees—
God does.
The eye roll.
The subtle gesture.
The thoughts we don’t say out loud.
Nothing is hidden from Him.
And that can feel uncomfortable…
but it’s also a gift.
Because it reminds us that our lives aren’t just lived in public moments—
they’re shaped in private ones.
Who you are when it’s quiet…
when there’s no audience…
when there’s no accountability but God…
That’s the real you.
And here’s why that matters in motherhood:
Your children may not see your private moments…
but they will experience the fruit of them.
They will feel your patience—or your frustration.
Your peace—or your anxiety.
Your consistency—or your inconsistency.
Because what’s developed in private
will always reveal itself in public.
“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” — Proverbs 15:3
Your private life with God matters more than you think.
Not the version of you that shows up in public.
Not the version of you that knows what to say at the right time.
But the real you.
The one who chooses prayer… or skips it.
The one who opens the Bible… or scrolls instead.
The one who trusts God… or tries to control everything.
Because eventually…
what’s done in private shows up in public.
“Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” — Luke 6:45
What fills you… will flow out of you.
So if we’re empty spiritually…
it will show.
If we’re inconsistent with God…
it will show.
And here’s the truth we can’t ignore:
You can’t pour into your children
from a place you’re not drawing from.
We want them to:
Love God
Trust God
Follow God
But they learn that… by watching us do it first.
Not perfectly.
But genuinely.
Moms, your quiet time matters.
Your prayers matter.
Your surrender matters.
Even when no one claps for it.
Even when no one sees it.
God does.
And over time… your children will too.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8
Who you are in private will shape what your children experience in public.
Let’s pray.
Jesus, thank You for every woman who has taken the time to read this series—mothers by birth and mothers by choice.
Thank You for the love, sacrifice, patience, and strength they pour out daily, even in moments when no one else sees it.
I pray this series encouraged them, strengthened them, and reminded them that motherhood is not a small assignment—it is Kingdom work.
Give them wisdom to lead, grace for the hard days, and courage to raise their children according to Your truth.
Help them to be examples in word, in character, and in faith.
Let their children see You through the way they live, love, and lead.
When they feel tired, renew them.
When they feel inadequate, remind them that Your strength is made perfect in weakness.
And when they question if what they are doing matters, remind them that every seed planted in love and obedience has purpose.
May Your peace cover their homes, Your favor rest upon their families, and Your presence guide them every step of the way.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
I pray this series didn’t just speak to you, but strengthened you to parent with intention, faith and confidence in Jesus.
Share this series with a mom who is choosing to grow with God—faithfully and intentionally.
