Because I Said So

“Because I said so.”

How many times did we hear that growing up?

No explanation.
No room for discussion.
Just a clear message: Don’t question me.

And if we’re honest…
somewhere along the way, we carried that mindset into our relationship with God.

We stopped asking.
We stopped wondering.
We stopped bringing Him our real thoughts.

Because we thought questioning God meant we lacked faith.

But let’s challenge that.

God is not a parent trying to shut down a conversation.
He’s a Father inviting you into one.

He is not intimidated by your questions.
He’s not offended by your curiosity.
And He’s definitely not sitting in heaven saying, “Don’t ask me why.”

Even Jesus, in one of the most painful moments recorded, cried out:

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” — Matthew 27:46

If Jesus asked why…
then questioning God isn’t rebellion—it’s relationship.

Here’s where we need to be careful though.

Questions aren’t the problem.
Doubt is.

Scripture doesn’t tell us not to ask—
it tells us how to ask.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.”— James 1:5–6

God welcomes your questions.
But He’s asking for your trust while you ask them.

That’s the difference.

One asks from a place of pursuit.
The other questions from a place of unbelief.

And here’s the beauty of it…

Asking leads to understanding.

“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him,  having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,” — Ephesians 1:17–18

You don’t grow in silence.
You grow in relationship.

And relationship requires communication.

So ask.

Ask when you don’t understand.
Ask when you’re frustrated.
Ask when life doesn’t make sense.

Bring Him the real questions—not the polished ones.

Because the more you ask…

The more He reveals.
The more He reveals…

You begin to:

Grow.
Heal.
Learn.

And maybe… just maybe…

God was never saying, “Because I said so.”

Maybe He’s been saying all along,
“Come talk to Me about it.”

Share this with someone who’s been afraid to ask God the hard questions.
