Choosing Christ Over Culture
Matthew 5:16
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Jesus’ words about salt and light were never meant to be comfortable. They were meant to call believers to live differently.
Salt preserves what is good.
Light exposes what is hidden.
Both stand in contrast to the world around them.
Following Christ has always required believers to make a choice. Every day we are faced with the decision of whether we will blend into the culture around us or remain faithful to the One who called us.
Choosing Christ over culture does not mean living with anger or judgment toward the world. It means living with conviction, humility, and courage.
It means allowing our values, decisions, and priorities to be shaped by God’s truth rather than the shifting opinions of society.
When believers choose Christ over culture, their lives begin to look different.
Not louder.
Not arrogant.
Just different.
And sometimes that difference is exactly what God uses to draw others toward Him.
Reflection:
Where is God asking me to choose faithfulness to Him instead of comfort with the culture around me?
Being salt and light is not about perfection. It’s about faithfulness.
When we choose Christ daily, our lives naturally become a testimony to the world around us.
The world doesn’t need believers who blend in.
It needs believers who stand out for Christ.
Be the salt.
Be the light.
