God’s Property
1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Trin-i-tee 5:7 has a song called My Body. The song speaks about self-respect, boundaries, and celibacy. But there is one line that drives the message home:
“My body is the Lord’s temple…God’s property.”
What if we really lived like that?
What if we viewed our bodies as belonging to God and not simply ours to do whatever we feel like doing with it.
Maybe some of our struggles with sexual boundaries would look different.
Scripture tells us:
“You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” —
1 Corinthians 6:19–20
That changes the conversation.
When we belong to Christ, our bodies are no longer something we separate from our faith. Following Jesus includes what we do with our minds, our mouths, our choices—and yes, our bodies.
Abstinence is not simply about saying, “I can’t have sex.”
It is recognizing, “I belong to God, so I want what I do with my body to honor Him.”
That perspective moves us beyond rules and into relationship.
Because when something belongs to God, we should treat it differently.
We become more intentional about who has access to us.
We establish boundaries.
We stop allowing temporary feelings to make permanent decisions for us.
And we begin asking a different question.
Instead of, “How far can I go without technically sinning?”
We ask, “Does this honor God with the body He has entrusted to me?”
That may mean saying no when your flesh wants to say yes.
It may mean leaving a relationship that constantly pressures you to compromise.
It may mean establishing boundaries that other people do not understand.
It may even mean changing boundaries you once thought were strong enough.
But obedience becomes easier to understand when we remember who we belong to.
As followers of Christ, our desires do not get the final say.
Jesus does.
So the next time temptation comes and your flesh starts making its case, remind yourself:
I belong to God.
My choices should reflect that.
My boundaries should reflect that.
The way I treat my body should reflect that.
All because I understand the value of what has been entrusted to me.
God’s property.
And that makes it worth protecting while you WAIT.
