Follow the Leader

Did you ever play follow the leader as a child?

One person would lead, and everyone else lined up behind them—watching closely, mimicking every move. The key to doing it well was simple:

Keep your eyes on the leader.

Because the moment you looked away…
you missed a step.
You got off balance.
You fell behind.

And at times, that’s exactly what happens in our walk with Christ.

We get distracted.
We lose focus.
We start following other things.

And suddenly, we feel off.

Not because the path is unclear…
but because our eyes are no longer on the Leader.

Following people today is easy.

All it takes is a click to follow someone on social media. No cost. No commitment. No sacrifice.

But following Jesus?

That’s different.

There is a cost.
There is responsibility.
There is surrender.

But there is also reward—a reward that far outweighs anything this world could ever offer.

In a world full of noise, it’s easy for Jesus to get pushed aside… or even left out completely.

But if we’re going to walk this life wisely, we must keep our eyes fixed on Him.

Because He doesn’t just tell us where to go—
He shows us.

He leads every step… if we’re willing to follow.

A true follower of Jesus doesn’t just admire Him—they hold to His teachings.

And the beauty of Scripture is this:

It is perfect.
It is trustworthy.
It lacks nothing.

Everything we need for direction, wisdom, and purpose is already written.

As Psalm 19:7–11 reminds us:

The Word of God refreshes the soul.
It makes the simple wise.
It brings joy to the heart and light to the eyes.
It is more precious than gold… and sweeter than honey.

Not bitter.
Not burdensome.

Sweet. Life-giving. True.

Jesus makes it clear what following Him requires.

In Luke 9:23–27 (MSG), He says:

“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat—I am… Follow me and I’ll show you how.”

That means following Jesus is not a one-time decision—
it’s a daily commitment.

It’s waking up each day and choosing:

“Lord, You lead. I’ll follow.”

It’s surrendering control.
It’s trusting His direction.
It’s allowing Him to take the driver’s seat—fully.

Does that mean you have to be perfect?

Not at all.

Jesus’ own disciples were far from perfect.
But they were willing.

They believed.
They followed.
They stayed.

And that’s all He’s asking of us.

No matter your past, no matter your mistakes—
He is always inviting you to follow Him.

Will you lose some things when you fully commit to Jesus?

Maybe.

But what you gain—
peace, purpose, direction, identity, eternal life—
will always outweigh what you leave behind.

So give Him your life.

Trust His lead.

Stay close.

Keep your eyes on Him.

Because in the end, the safest place you can ever be…
is right behind the One who knows the way.

Share this with someone who’s been driving—and needs to let Jesus take the wheel.
