Consistency Matters
James 1:4
“And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
If I’m being honest, consistency is something I’ve struggled with.
Let me just name a few things I’ve started and stopped—selling Avon, body training, a podcast, a travel agency… you get the picture.
Starting? I can do that.
Finishing? That’s where it gets hard.
And I know I’m not alone.
We live in a world that celebrates quick starts, fast results, and instant success. But the Kingdom of God doesn’t operate like that.
God is not just concerned with what we start—He’s concerned with what we stay committed to.
James 1:4 says, “Let steadfastness have its full effect…”
That means don’t interrupt the process.
Don’t cut it short.
Don’t walk away before God finishes what He’s doing in you.
Because consistency isn’t just about discipline—it’s about development.
Steadfastness produces something in us. It shapes us. It matures us. It makes us “perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
But here’s the challenge…
We often quit before the growth shows up.
We quit when it gets repetitive.
We quit when it gets uncomfortable.
We quit when it feels like nothing is happening.
But what if something is happening?
What if God is working beneath the surface?
Think about it like this:
A race car driver doesn’t pull over just because the lane is crowded.
That’s the race.
In the race of life, don’t quit the course before the exit.
God is saying, “I didn’t bring you this far to stop now.”
A star basketball player doesn’t stop shooting because they missed a few shots.
They keep going—because one shot can change the game.
In the game of life, don’t quit before you score.
God says, “Victory is still in play.”
Just because it’s hard…
Just because it’s slow…
Just because it’s not working yet…
Doesn’t mean it’s over.
Just because you don’t see progress doesn’t mean you’re not progressing.
And when the pressure rises—when things feel hard, overwhelming, or even painful—that’s where Isaiah 43:2 reminds us:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… when you walk through fire you shall not be burned…”
Notice it doesn’t say if—it says when.
You will go through seasons that test your consistency.
You will face moments that make you want to give up.
But quitting cancels what consistency is trying to produce.
God never promised the process would be easy…
But He did promise you wouldn’t go through it alone.
So if you’ve been inconsistent—start again.
If you’ve stopped—pick it back up.
If you’re tired—lean on Him, not out.
Because consistency matters.
And what God is building in you is worth staying the course.
Someone needs this reminder today—send it to them.
